John and Kathy Hayes
John and Kathy Hayes have been missionaries to Brazil since 1984. Their ministry has concentrated in the city of São Paulo, the fourth largest city in the world. They are actively involved in urban ministry, and have assisted in the planting of five churches in the São Paulo area through team ministry. John serves as the director of the Missionary Training Center, which equips Latin American missionary candidates for cross-cultural ministry around the world. He is also involved in the leadership of the missions movement in South America, teaching in missions conferences and seminars and serving on various boards and committees throughout South America. In 1999, John and Kathy founded the City of Refuge Home for Children, a ministry to street children. Through integral ministry, they are also working to prevent family breakdown, the reason many children are left homeless. This ministry operates through nine feeding centers, where local church volunteers provide food, family counseling, literacy programs, professional training, discipleship and other programs. Many children and entire families have been reached with the gospel through this ministry.
